Love Your Local Bookstore: Blue Willow Bookshop in Houston, TX

Today is a big day. It's small business Saturday! That means close your laptop for five seconds, grab your wallet, hop in the car (or on the bike like a true indie), and drive to your community bookstore! I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised by how fun and rewarding it is to shop local- you can enjoy great author events, crash a book club meeting, and receive great staff recommendations. (Some of my favorite books have come from following the advice of those little index cards hanging from the bookshelves of my go-to stores.) So if you're in Houston and haven't yet stopped by Blue Willow Bookshop, today is the day!

Here is a description from their website:

A life-long reader, Valerie Koehler opened Blue Willow Bookshop in October 1996, when her sons Will and Steve started at Meadow Wood Elementary.  Today, Will has graduated from TCU and Steve is a junior at OSU.
At Blue Willow Bookshop you can find an eclectic selection of books (fiction and nonfiction) for both adults and children – something for everyone, with lots of personal favorite books that customers and staff have recommended as the BEST READ EVER.  Blue Willow Bookshop also carries many puzzles, games, and gifts for the book lover.
With Valerie (or Girlboss, as we call her) at the helm, Blue Willow Bookshop, located on Memorial Drive at Dairy Ashford, has become known as a step back in time to the old neighborhood shop, where neighbors gather to talk books and share news.  We offer personalized service, shipping and free gift wrap.
If your organization ever needs a speaker, Valerie would be happy to welcome you to the store for a program or would visit your own venue.  Just give her a call.
Stop by, sit in one of our blue chairs and read awhile.  Bring a friend or bring yourself.  You’ll be glad you came!
